Driving myself crazy

****Another update from Wild Lens volunteer and post-doc researcher Virginia Schutte, who is currently in Panama studying mangrove ecosystems. More updates about the progress of her research will be coming soon!****

It is now normal for me to DRIVE to our field site and back most workdays! It is sometimes scary, but I do it! Panamanian traffic is full of speed when you wouldn’t think it necessary and hair-raising merges.

I look calm and collected while I drive... But I sometimes feel nervous!

I look calm and collected while I drive… But I sometimes feel nervous!

Luckily, our main field site is about 45 minutes away and I don’t have to travel through the city at all. It’s only a few minutes from the lab to the highway and when we turn off the highway, it’s deserted dirt roads from there to the mangroves. I’m sure I’ll have to drive through city traffic sometime, but I’m grateful just to have come through the first few weeks unscathed!

No incidents and only success so far.
