Week 26 – Red-breasted Nuthatch

Fledgling Red-breasted Nuthatch. Photograph by Neil Paprocki.

This week has been so busy with the beginning of our Kickstarter campaign for Bluebird Man that I almost forgot it was week 26. I’m half-way through this 52-week project already! Time sure does fly.

I spent Saturday morning birding with Al Larson near his homestead along Daggett Creek. Al has many feeders at his house and we saw a lot of great birds. Black-chinned and Calliope Hummingbirds, Western Tanagers, Lazuli Buntings, Black-headed Grosbeak, Pine Siskin, Cassin’s Finch, and many more.

A recently fledged family of Red-breasted Nuthatches were also hanging out in the conifer trees around the house. The fledglings were still begging the parents for food, even though they look almost identical to their adult counterparts.

All of the previous 52-week blog posts can be found at the Wild Lens blog or on Flickr.
