Week 38 – Ring-billed Gull
Adult Ring-billed Gull. Photograph by Neil Paprocki.
You would think after spending 4-days at HawkWatch International’s premiere raptor trapping site that I would have come away with some excellent raptor photos. Well… not so much. I was in the Goshute Mountains of eastern Nevada to film for HawkWatch, and that is what I did. I think I took less than 10 photos the entire time I was there as I really wanted to focus on filming.
This left me scrambling to snag this weeks photograph after returning to Delta, Utah. Gulls are present in some pretty big numbers on the Gunnison Bend Reservoir that I now call home. Most are California Gulls (ironically the state bird of Utah) and Ring-billed Gulls.
Next week I will be visiting the Vermillion Cliffs of northern Arizona for the annual public California Condor release on Saturday, September 28th. Needless to say I hope to come away with some photo options for next week, and preferably some without all blue backgrounds that have dominated the last few weeks.
